Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday fired another warning shot, emphatically reminding Bacolodnons that the COVID-19 pandemic is not over, and that they should observe minimum health protocols to control transmission of the deadly virus.

Leonardia issued the warning after a brief made by Executive Director Em Legaspi-Ang of the Emergency Operations Center-Task Force, that contact-tracing cluster head Dr. Rosalie Deocampo told EOC-TF members in their daily huddle that cases doubled from 16 to 34 late Wednesday night.

Dr. Deocampo, Ang disclosed, said that those infected have a travel history or had attended holiday gatherings.

On Monday, Leonardia and the EOC-TF members discussed in an emergency Zoom meeting the uptick of COVID cases in the National Capital Region and adjacent provinces after the holiday celebrations. Health authorities also suspect that the increase in daily spread may already be due to the Omicron variant.

“We should remain compliant with the minimum health protocols. Getting vaccinated certainly protects us but we have to be reminded to wear face mask, avoid crowded places and observe social distancing at all times,” the mayor said.*
