Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez endorsed to the Sangguniang Panlungsod the letter of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corporation (BREDCO), expressing its intention to reclaim additional areas intended for development under the replanning/re-engineering of its port operations in Bacolod City.
In his letter to the SP, Benitez said that with this proposal, he is expecting that it will entail the amendment of the Comprehensive Revised Reclamation Agreement (CRRA) entered by the City of Bacolod and BREDCO last March 16, 1995, and the subsequent Tripartite Memorandum of Agreement between the city, BREDCO, and Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) entered into last March 18, 2000.
Councilor Al Victor Espino accepted the endorsement of Benitez during the regular session yesterday, saying that he will schedule a public hearing on the matter.
In its letter to Benitez, the management of BREDCO said that it is stipulated in both the CRRA and the Tripartite Memorandum of Agreement that the size of the project is ‘at least 250 hectares.’ “It is in light with said provision that we are writing the Mayor to convey our intention to reclaim additional areas intended to be developed under the replanning of the port operations resulting from the value engineering. This land mass will be adjacent and contiguous with the already existing port being utilized for BREDCO’s RORO operations which is, at present, covered under the regulation of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.”*
