Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia will hold a virtual meeting with Task Force COVID and the barangays captains of Bacolod today for a tighter implementation of basic health protocols in the city.

The mayor wants the barangay leaders to closely coordinate with the City Health Office for contact-tracing procedures.

“The barangay officials are indispensable in this fight against COVID-19. We need the grassroots reach and machinery of the barangays to get the message clearly to the people and require their compliance with mandatory health protocols,” the mayor said.

During the meeting, Leonardia will assess how barangay captains handle the COVID situation and to guide them on the latest quarantine and testing protocols.

“The mayor wants to have our quarantine and testing protocols coordinated with the barangays because we have received reports from some barangay captains that there are residents who are not cooperating on these protocols,” City Administrator Em Ang said.

She cited a report that some direct contacts of Patient No. 89 in Barangay Banago had refused to submit to swabbing.

There are also reports that some barangay captains refused to accept patients discharged from quarantine, even if they have already received their negative swab results, but have not yet completed their 14-day quarantine at government facilities.

They will also discuss the reports of the Bacolod City Police Office on the violation of health protocols in many barangays during the meeting.*
