Mayor to plant 30,000 trees for 30th birthday

“30,000 trees for the 30 years I have lived on Earth.”

Mayor Javier Miguel Benitez wrote that on his Facebook page as he shared the successful launch of his tree-planting initiative titled “Kaadlawan Padulong sa Pagtipig Sang Kalasangan,” in celebration of his 30th birthday held at Sitio Binintigan, Gawahon, Barangay XI, on October 8.

According to a press release, the initiative, organized by the Victorias City Environment Office (VCENRO) under the leadership of Officer-In-Charge Lara Ann Garcia, aims to plant a total of 30,000 trees, symbolizing the mayor’s three decades of life and his strong commitment to environmental rehabilitation and reforestation.

The event saw the participation of over 700 volunteers from various sectors, including city employees, who came together to plant the first 3,000 narra seedlings.

Benitez emphasized that the trees symbolize his deep-rooted connection to Victorias and his ongoing commitment to look after the city, even as he takes on greater challenges in the future.

He encouraged citizens to get more involved in the upcoming tree planting and growing activity, which seeks to achieve the ambitious target before his next birthday.

The mayor expressed his vision of leaving a legacy of environmental stewardship, one that would benefit future generations of Victoriasanons.

The activity was also attended by various government agencies, including the Victorias PNP, led by its newly appointed police chief, PLt.Col. Terence Paul Santa Ana, the 605th Mobile Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 6, personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire and Protection, as well as the Philippine Coast Guard.

Civil society groups such as Empowerment and Reaffirmation of Paternal Abilities (ERPAT), the Children’s Development Association, the Women’s Federation, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the Philippines, the Deaf Community, BASKOG Victorias, the Red Cross, People’s Organizations, Bantay Bukid and Katunggan, representatives from Barangay XI, and the Schools Division of Victorias City also joined the effort.

Stressing that the tree planting project is just the beginning, Benitez urged more volunteers to participate in the movement, to ensure the completion of the 30,000-tree target.*
