A mechanic shot dead two sisters and stabbed himself in front of the Tough Star Engineering Works at Gonzaga Extension in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, at about 5:45 p.m. yesterday.
Killed were Aimee Mahilum and her younger sister Jane Mahilum-Decara, P/Capt. Elmer Bonilla, Station 6 chief, said last night.
The suspect, identified as Alvin Lanza, was brought to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment of his self-inflicted injuries and is being guarded by policemen, Bonilla said.
Investigation showed that Mahilum was driving a Toyota Revo, with Decara as passenger, when Lanza shot them. Bystanders heard a commotion followed by two gunshots, Bonilla said.
He said Mahilum was hit in her body and Decara in the face. Lanza then stabbed himself in the chest.
Lanza allegedly has a relationship with Mahilum, but her family did not approve of him, Bonilla said.
Recovered from the crime scene were a .45 caliber pistol, a magazine, two unfired bullets, two empty shells, and a knife.
The bodies of Mahilum and Decara will be autopsied.
The police will also check the closed-circuit television camera of the establishment today to determine what happened.
Murder charges may be filed against Lanza, who is in stable condition, Bonilla added.*
