LGBT Pride in Himamaylan City conducted “Mga Istorya Balangaw” in different barangays of Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental. It is a series of storytelling activities which is part of the group’s projects in connection with the June Pride Month celebration.
Storytellers created stories are inspired by their colorful experiences and struggles as members of the LGBTQ+ community and shared them to their audiences.
In preparation for the event, the organizers conducted a seminar-workshop to 15 storytellers early this month where they were trained on how to write and tell stories, as well as teaching them on how to create and design big books which served as their visual materials for the children who will attend the activity.
The trained storytellers were then assigned to different barangays to conduct storytelling activities. The activity started on June 18 in barangays Aguisan, Mambagaton, and Caradio-an.
On June 19, the group’s activities were carried out in barangays Sara-et and Su-ay, and haciendas Silos and Antipolo. The event will end on July 2 in barangays Cabanbanan, Nabali-an, and Libacao.
This project was funded by ASEAN SOGIE Caucus in partnership with Teach for the Philippines, which was spearheaded by Wyn Gallo.*
