BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said he is issuing an executive order today extending the Modified General Community Quarantine over Negros Occidental supposed to end today, until August 30.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia could not be reached for comment on the expected quarantine status of the city after today. A source said Bacolod may also continue under MGCQ until August 30.

Both the Negros Occidental Capitol and Bacolod City Government Center are on lockdown up to Monday with 20 provincial government employees having tested positive for COVID-19, and a second Bacolod Land Tax Division worker having succumbed to the virus.

“We just have to closely monitor local transmissions happening among our government employees,” Lacson said.

The Department of Health 6 reported 27 new COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental yesterday, bringing the total in the province to 752.

Bacolod City had 13 new cases, for a total of 434, the DOH 6 reported.

The Negros Occidental provincial government issued an advisory yesterday to all Negrense locally stranded individuals (LSIs) in Cebu to refrain from proceeding to the Port of Tabuelan without any advice from their local government units.

Their return through the Port of Tabuelan will be arranged after the moratorium issued by the National Inter-Agency Task Force on the return of LSIs is lifted and depending on the availability of space at the Cadiz City quarantine facility, Charina Magallanes-Tan, Negros Occidental COVID-19 Incident Command Center spokesperson, said.*
