A minor and his uncle were reported to have drowned on Tuesday at the Nabinay River in Barangay Mabini, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.
Initial police investigations showed that alias Jesus, 42, and his two nephews were fishing at the river, when the 9-year-old victim was carried away by the strong current.
Jesus reportedly tried to rescue his nephew, but also got swept away by the current, according to the police.
The other minor was able to call for help, however, the bodies of the two victims were recovered by search and rescue group members almost three hours after they were reported missing.
Both were also declared dead on arrival at the Cadiz District Hospital, according to the Cadiz City police.*
