Sitio Sana-aw was declared the overall champion in the street dancing and dance-drama competition of the four-day 23rd Minuluan Festival in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, which concluded on September 10.

The cluster also won most of the special awards, including best in street dance, best in fight scene, best in production design, best in dance-drama performance, best in costume and best in choreography.

The best in rhythm was awarded to Sitio Hermania. The group was also adjudged as the first runner-up, while Sitio Katunggan second runner-up.

The minor awards for best costume designer, best production designer and best choreographer were awarded to Sitio Sana-aw; best lead banner to Sitio Hermania; and Sitio Katunggan was best Kapitan Sabi in character and the most disciplined cluster.

The champion took home P90,000 in cash prize, while first and second runners-up received P70,000 and P50,000, respectively.  Consolation prize was P15,000 each.

Other contingents were Sitio Busan-se, Sitio Rafa, Sitio Linao, Sitio Cacon and Sitio Carribatranca.

Minuluan is the old name of Talisay City and the Minuluan Festival is a celebration of the bravery, heroism and glorious life of peace-loving residents of the city.

It is a tribute to the bravery and heroism of Kapitan Sabino “Sabi” Pangantihon who led the resistance against Moro pirates.

The festival is also the celebration of the feast of the city’s patron saint, San Nicolas de Tolentino, which falls on Sept. 10.*
