The decomposing body of a farmer was found inside a field at Rosario Hills, Barangay Nato, La Castellana, Negros Occidental yesterday, after he was reported missing for five days.
The victim was identified as Porferio Obero III, 58-years-old, an overseer and a resident of Sitio Nahilaw, Barangay Lalagsan.
The police investigation revealed that the victim was reportedly missing for five days before the discovery. Obero left his house on September 9 and went to the place of incident to cultivate his lot.
However, days had passed but the victim never went home. His family was looking for him, and it was found out that his body was already lying lifeless inside the field.
The police and the bereaved family claim that the death of the victim was without any sign of foul play. The victim’s son, alias ‘Anthony,’ revealed to the police that his father had a history of hypertension, which may be a possible cause of death.
KABANKALAN
Another farmer was discovered dead inside a rice field located at Purok Malipayon, Barangay Tampalon in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental yesterday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Estilio Tolomia, a 48-year-old farmer and a resident of the barangay.
According to Mervin Paylon, Tolomia’s stepson, the victim was last seen on Saturday, when he allegedly went into the field to farm. However, he was not able to go back home after that day.
PCapt. Sammy Gasataya, deputy chief of Kabankalan Component City Police Station, said that the victim was probably cultivating his rice field when he slipped on the muddy area, lost his balance, and fell to a lower part of the rice field which was more or less 4 feet high. This prevented him from recovering and resulted in his death.
The area of the incident had no sign of struggle or foul play. The cadaver was brought to Lisa’s Funeral Homes and is a subject for postmortem examination.*
