Police Station 5 (PS5) in Bacolod City is looking into the angle of mistaken identity in the brutal killing of a 22-year-old man whose body was found inside Brgy. Granada Public Cemetery, Wednesday afternoon.

Police Capt. John Christopher Masangkay, PS5 commander in an interview with Youlink Community News (YCN) said that the witness, an alias Christian, related that he and Darwin Nuñez were meeting the suspects about 10:30 p.m., Tuesday to deliver the marijuana they ordered.

Christian told police that it was Nuñez who handed the order to the two men while he stayed outside on their motorcycle. The suspects allegedly asked the victim to help them look for their lost wallet inside the cemetery, that’s when the witness heard the victim shouting and immediately left the scene.

Nuñez was discovered with his throat cut and with stab wounds in the abdomen at about 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, placed on top of a grave.

Masangkay said during their investigation Christian admitted that he may be the target of the two men who were allegedly hired by the parent of his ex-girlfriend to do him harm since he refused to marry their daughter. He also added that he has received threats on his life because of his refusal.

On the other hand, Nuñez has no record with the police and may have just started dealing with drugs when the crime happened.

Recovered from the scene were a helmet which was identified by Christian as similar to what his ex-girlfriend’s father was using and a kitchen knife. They were submitted to the Crime Laboratory for forensic examination while an autopsy will be performed on Nuñez’s body to determine the cause of death.

“We are still conducting follow-up investigation and evidence gathering to identify the suspects so that criminal charges will be filed against them,” Masangkay said.*YCN
