Eight intersections in Bacolod City are scheduled for a traffic light modernization project aimed at improving local traffic flow and monitoring.
Bacolod Traffic Transport and Management Department head Atty. Reuben Mikhail Sabig said the installation of the new systems is expected to commence in June, beginning at the Burgos-Lopez Jaena intersection.
The new equipment, procured through the City Engineer’s Office, will feature integrated cameras and sensors designed to assist in real-time traffic management and data gathering.
Sabig clarified that although the new units feature advanced cameras, they will not be used for no-contact apprehension at this time.
The devices are strictly intended for monitoring traffic flow and tracking the movement of vehicles to help the BTTMD better manage the city’s growing road congestion.
The intersections identified for the upgrades include those along Burgos Street and the Circumferential Road, Lopez Jaena, and Lacson Street; along Lacson Street and B.S. Aquino Drive, Rizal Street, and Hernaez Street; and along Araneta Street at intersections with Lizares and Hernaez streets.*
