Negros Occidental Board Member Andrew Montelibano yesterday assured his support for incumbent Mayor Gerry Rojas, who will seek his last term as mayor of Murcia, Negros Occidental during the elections on May next year.
Montelibano made the announcement after his meeting with brothers Third District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez and Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, and other leaders of the district.
“We agreed to support Mayor Gerry and his team in Murcia,” the former mayor of the municipality stressed.
There were speculations earlier that Montelibano may challenge Rojas in the Murcia mayoralty race next year.
I have set aside my political plans to allow them to finish their terms, Montelibano said.
He however pointed out that his commitment does not cover councilors.
“That is another story. I will choose my own set of councilors to support,” he said, as he also confirmed his intention to seek reelection as a board member, representing the 3rd district of Negros Occidental, in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Montelibano also hinted at running for mayor of Murcia in 2028.*
