More San Carlos City employees test positive for drugs

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The number of employees of San Carlos City government in Negros Occidental that tested positive for drugs has increased to 18, as four regular employees were added to the list, Mayor Rene Gustilo disclosed yesterday.

Of the 18 employees who tested positive for illegal drugs, Gustilo said eight are regular employees, while 10 are job order workers.

About 1,500 of more than 2,000 employees of the San Carlos City government were subject to random drug testing by the City Anti Drug Abuse Council this year, in compliance with the memorandum order issued by the Civil Service Commission.

Under the CSC guidelines, Gustilo said regular employees that test positive for illegal drugs will have to undergo confirmatory testing.

He, however, stressed that the Job Order and Contract of Service workers that tested positive for use of illegal drugs will lose their jobs.

Gustilo said the city will ensure that all employees will be tested to ensure a drug-free workplace.

The annual drug testing among San Carlos City employees is aimed at ensuring drug free government offices.*
