More skeletal remains turn up

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Authorities recovered another set of human skeletal remains on Tuesday morning, February 24, in various parts of Negros Occidental.

A 39-year-old laborer, Rocky Paculanang, discovered human skeletal remains and clothing at approximately 9:30 a.m. while harvesting sugarcane at Hacienda Maria Cecilia in Barangay Crossing Magallon, Moises Padilla, prompting him to immediately alert the local disaster risk reduction office and the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station.

Another set of unidentified skeletal remains was previously discovered in the town on February 21, which currently remains unidentified.

Meanwhile, in Bago City, a human skeleton was discovered along the Maragandang River in Purok Timawa, Barangay Ma-ao, at around 8 a.m. yesterday.

Reports said a resident discovered the remains after noticing a dog carrying a bone near the riverbank. Upon further investigation, a human skull was found tucked beneath a cluster of bamboo plants.

The discovered skeletal remains are believed to belong to victims of Typhoon Tino that struck the province last November 2025.

The recovered items are currently in police custody, and forensic photographs have been documented for the case file.

Coordination is now underway with the Provincial Forensic Unit in Bacolod City to conduct a skeletal examination and determine the victim’s identity.*
