BY ADRIAN P. NEMES

Five hundred forty-eight delivery riders in Bacolod underwent surveillance testing over the weekend to ascertain if they are free from the coronavirus disease 2019, City Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, said yesterday.

Pineda, who also heads the Bacolod Quick Response team, said the riders are from 10 door-to-door delivery services.

On Saturday, 81 riders underwent surveillance testing at the Bacolod Arts and Youth Center, and 467 the next day.

Pineda said the specimens taken from the riders were sent to a testing laboratory in Cebu and the results are expected tomorrow or Thursday.

The results will be furnished the barangays where the riders reside, and those who tested positive will immediately be extracted from their homes and sent to quarantine facilities, he said.

Pineda said another surveillance testing will be conducted this weekend, targeting public utility drivers in Bacolod City.

He said they already negotiated with the leaders of public transport groups on the planned testing, and the latter had assured the city of their full cooperation.

The drivers were supposed to be included in the surveillance testing last weekend but they failed to participate.

Pineda assured that public transport operations will not be hampered as the drivers will be allowed to continue plying their routes after the swab test.

The City is targeting 1,500 drivers and riders for testing.*APN
