Congratulations to Bacolod City for having been named the “Most Business Friendly Local Government Unit” for 2021 by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, besting 10 other finalists in the highly urbanized city category of the nationwide search.

The 2021 recognition came 14 years after Bacolod won a similar accolade in 2007, both times with Mayor Evelio Leonardia at the helm of the city.

According to the organizers, Bacolod City has been a consistent national finalist of the PCCI Award in the last four years. This year it was competing against the formidably led cities of Baguio, Angeles, Cagayan de Oro, Davao, General Santos, Iloilo, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Olongapo and Zamboanga.

The PCCI awards committee cited the Bacolod City government for its efforts to keep the local economy afloat despite the COVID-19 crisis and recognized the innovations and timely interventions made by the LGU in support of local businesses at the height of the health crisis, including the 24-hour vaccination drive for those in the Business Process Outsourcing sector and the service industry, as well as the mobile vaccination campaign that inoculated thousands of vendors in major public markets and public utility vehicle drivers, among others.

The city government received high marks for increased competitiveness, for providing an enabling environment and for championing the ease of doing business in order to attract investments. It was also credited for its promotion and support to micro, small and medium scale enterprises.

Competitions and awards give us a chance to gauge our performance against the best and in this case, Bacolod City was not only measured against the country’s best, but it prevailed and was judged the most business friendly by an exacting organization such as the PCCI. Earning such an accolade is never an accident, especially for a highly urbanized city, because it only comes as a result of visionary leadership, dogged determination, and the hard work of everyone involved.

Congratulations again to the City of Bacolod. May this achievement serve as fuel for the city and its people as we continue the journey to economic recovery and the progress and prosperity that hopefully follows.*
