A motorist rammed the border check-up point barricade in front of Lopue’s Mandalagan, at Lacson Street, Barangay Mandalagan, Bacolod City, at about 5:45 a.m. yesterday.

Dario Awiten Jr., 52, of Talisay City in Negros Occidental, was brought to the hospital but was later released, P/Staff Sgt. Bryan Cordero, Station 3 traffic investigator, said.

Traffic investigation showed that Awiten, on board his Rusi motorcycle, was travelling south of Lacson Street on the way to work when his attention strayed to the police officers beside the road, and hit the barricade, that was installed minutes before the accident, Cordero said.

Meanwhile, there were no major incidents on the first day of the “no movement weekend” in Bacolod City, P/Col. Henry Biñas, Bacolod City Police Office director, said yesterday.

Only a few violators were caught for not properly wearing face masks and practicing social distancing, Biñas said.

He said there were individuals on the road but were mostly authorized or delivering essential goods and services.

Biñas said many Bacoleños cooperated and stayed at home.

Police personnel were deployed to man the border check-up points installed in strategic areas of the city.

The check-up points, initially for the 4-day Timeout Weekend, will continue, depending on further developments, Biñas added.*
