MR of sacked BCC prof junked by mayor

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

Mayor Greg Gasataya announced on Monday that he denied the Motion for Reconsideration (MR) of the Bacolod City College (BCC) professor who was found guilty of a sexual harassment complaint filed by a student.

On July 22, the professor was dismissed from his post as instructor and department head of the Bachelor of Science in Office Administration Program, based on the decision signed by Gasataya as the Chairman of the BCC Board of Trustees.

The professor denied the accusations stating that the complaint is not supported by any reliable documents, however, the MR he filed was denied by the Mayor last Friday, for lacking merit.

The professor was found guilty of requesting sexual favors in exchange for a passing grade and favorable academic conditions, unwelcome inquiries and comments of the student’s sex life, and unwelcome sexual flirtation, advances and propositions.

Following the dismissal, more alleged victims of the professor have contacted the City Mayor’s Office to report that they also suffered the same case.

The mayor encouraged the alleged victims to submit a written report as they cannot start an investigation without a formal complaint.

“Our assurance is that we will protect them if they continue to file the complaint,” Gasataya said.*
