Multi-awarded Negrense artist Susanito Sarnate opened his 23rd solo exhibition titled “Offline” at the Museo De La Salle, Bacolod City on November 12 that will run through November 28.
Sarnate of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, is known for his detailed terracotta sculptures and other mixed media works. He is a recipient of numerous awards, among them is the grand prize at the Pasalamat Festival in 2001 and recognition at the International Biennale Terracotta Festival in 2007. He was also recognized as the My SM, My Art Outstanding Terracotta Artist of Negros in 2017.
“Offline is a campaign to minimize the excessive use and time spent on gadgets and social media. Life is not just about all entertainment: it’s also a war (a fierce and merciless war) we must prepare by giving time to hone our skills, time to strengthen our mental, emotional and physical health which are being weakened through excessive exposure to social media,” Sarnate said.
The artist has also joined several group exhibits and conducts workshops in his hometown. He opened Kuta, a venue for aspiring artists in 2009.
Guests of honor at the opening were Art Association of Bacolod-Negros (AABN) treasurer Patty Jane Ong and AABN director Revo Yanson.*
