Murcia barangays receive ambulances

Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas, with municipal councilors, turned over the new ambulance to barangay officials and barangay workers of Brgy. Buenavista on July 30.*

Three more barangays in Murcia receive ambulances, in line with the thrust of Mayor Gerry Rojas to boost the delivery of healthcare services to his constituents.

Mayor Rojas, accompanied by Sangguniang Bayan Members, led the distribution last Tuesday of three brand-new patient transport vehicles to Brgy. Buenavista, Brgy. Sta. Rosa and Brgy. Alegria, rural barangays which are located at a considerable distance from the town proper.

According to a press release, the mayor also turned over two patient transport vehicles last April to Brgy. Cansilayan and Brgy. Lopez Jaena, making the five barangays the initial recipients of the mayor’s program to provide a brand-new patient transport vehicle to all the 23 barangays in Murcia.

“We have already distributed five ambulances to five rural barangays. Before the end of the year, we expect to distribute four more ambulances to another four barangays. We want to immediately provide each barangay with an ambulance, but our finances will not allow us. We will prioritize the far-flung barangays as our beneficiaries, as the poblacion barangays can be served by ambulances at our health center,” said Rojas.

He reiterated that the health and welfare of Murciahanons is his primary concern. These vehicles will provide immediate response to emergency situations in their respective area and nearby barangays. Patients can more quickly receive medical care and transport from this barangay-based ambulance, compared to an ambulance deployed from the health center in the town proper.

“These vehicles are intended to transport the patients from their barangay to the Murcia Health Center, where they can be attended to, and then sent back home if they are already well, or they will be sent aboard a bigger ambulance to a medical facility in Bacolod or Silay for more comprehensive medical attention,” the mayor added.

Since the start of his term in 2019, Rojas has spearheaded the procurement of more than ten brand-new ambulances to serve Murciahanons. These ambulances were purchased from local funds and sourced from various government offices.

Rojas assured Murciahanons that he and his administration will continue to further strengthen the health services in the town.*
