The Murcia Bureau of Fire Protection personnel, headed by Acting Fire Marshal SFO3 Anne Bastian, received a brand new state-of-the-art 1,000-gallon chemical firetruck from BFP 6 Regional Director FCSupt Jerry Candido, during the turnover rights at the Murcia covered court on March 10.

Candido turned over the firetruck to Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, who endorsed it to Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas, who consequently turned it over to the Murcia BFP through Bastian. Before the turnover, Fr. Ricky Atillaga of the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish Church blessed the vehicle and its accessories.

Present during the occasion were Abang Lingkod Rep. Stephen Paduano, 3rd District Board Member Manman Ko, Provincial Fire Marshal FSupt Kim Celisio, and Murcia officials led by Vice Mayor Johnny Reosura, Sangguniang Bayan Members and barangay officials.

“People, the employees, are the most important resource that an organization has. This is true. But people can only do so much. The capabilities of a workforce can be limited by the lack of resources and equipment. They can do better, and they can do more with better equipment,” said Bastian in her welcome message.

Rojas narrated that, since he assumed office in 2019, he has been requesting the DILG for an additional firetruck for Murcia. The Murcia BFP has two fire trucks but they are already quite old. The Murcia LGU overhauled and refurbished them, so that they can still be used in times of emergency.

Lacson thanked the DILG and the endorsement of Candido that Murcia has received a new fire truck.

“As we commemorate Fire Prevention Month this March, I really hope that there will be no fire incident which will require the use of this fire truck. What is more important is still fire prevention. I enjoin all local officials, particularly in the barangays, to intensify reminding your constituents about fire prevention measures. We can prevent fires, if we focus our attention on doing so,” the governor emphasized.

Candido disclosed that, when he was still the Chairman of the Technical Committee in 2017-2020 at the BFP National HQ, he was the one who designed the technical specifications of the new fire truck.

“A chemical firetruck can suppress Class C Fire, which includes fires caused by flammable liquids like gasoline, diesel, LPG, thinner, paint and others. It can suppress such fires in a matter of one minute, because it carries 3,800 liters of water mixed with 200 liters of foam,” Candido explained.

He cited that more than 1,500 cities and municipalities are asking for this type of fire truck, and that Murcia is very lucky to have this chemical fire truck.

“It took me more than three months to realize this new fire truck for Murcia. This will pave the way for the establishment of the Brgy. Lopez Jaena Fire Substation, where the old fire truck will be stationed. Brgy. Lopez Jaena is a very strategic area for a fire substation,” he further revealed.

“With the help of the Murcia LGU, in no time we can establish this new fire substation, so that we can bring fire services closer to the people. In moments of need, time is always of the essence. The faster we can arrive at the scene of the fire, the more chances that we can save lives and properties,” Candido stressed.*
