Aimed to enhance disaster preparedness, the Murcia Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) brought together communities for a Rescue Olympics on July 24, at the Murcia Covered Court.
Students from secondary schools of Lopez Jaena, Minoyan, Murcia, and officials from the barangays of San Miguel, Caliban, Iglau-an, and Minoyan engaged in the competition.
“The Rescue Olympics is to bring the emergency response to community level as a means of capacitation towards resilience,” Murcia DRRMO Head Vicente Leonida said.
Themed, “Pillars of Resilience, Uniting for preparedness,” the said event was part of the celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month led by the DRRM Committee Chair Mayor Gerry Rojas.
The month-long activities include poster making, quiz bee, motorcade, run for resilience campaign, and risk reduction exhibits.
“As a student, I’m happy to be part of this initiative, which will help us a lot, especially in times of calamity,” participant Rose Joy Villan said.
Moreover, Lopez Jaena National High School, Murcia National High School Team B, and Murcia Team A, won the competition as first, second, and third places, respectively.*
