Murcia MDRRMO gets additional building

Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas and SB Member Kedy Yu (third and fifth from left) led the ribbon-cutting ceremony during the blessing and inauguration of the additional two-storey building for the MDRRMO on Tuesday, with SBM Belen Magbanua, SBM Hernan Alintana, MDRRMO Head Vicente Leonida, SBM Francoise Ginson and SBM Joey Gomez (l-r)*

Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas, with Vice-Mayor Johnny Reosura and Sangguniang Bayan members, led the blessing and inauguration of the additional two-storey building for the Murcia Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office on Tuesday.

“We have learned from experience that numerous natural calamities – from typhoons, floods and ash emissions from Kanlaon Volcano – occur in our municipality. Thus, we take very seriously our program for disaster risk reduction and management. This two-storey building is a manifestation of our focus on prioritizing the safety of Murciahanons,” said Rojas.

The additional MDRRMO building is the latest project of the municipality to beef up its MDRRMO. Its personnel undergo regular training and emergency skills upgrading, while the response capability of the office is constantly being strengthened with additional emergency response / patient transport vehicles, multi-purpose vehicles, emergency medical equipment and rescue equipment. “I recall during the onslaught of Typhoon Tino last November. Together with Mayor Gerry Rojas and other SB Members, we were monitoring the disaster response efforts from here. So many Murciahanons were flocking to the MDRRMO to seek assistance, and the people were already overflowing at the command center. This additional building will ensure that we can accommodate more people in times of disaster,” said SB Member Francoise Ginson, chairman of the SB Committee on Peace, Order and Safety.*
