It’s another jam-packed weekend for sports enthusiasts all over the province of Negros Occidental as the Provincial Sports Office (PSO) released its line-up of sports events for the upcoming long weekend, October 29-31.

First on the list is the Abanse Negrense Softball Tournament, which will kick off in Brgy. Blumentritt, Murcia tomorrow.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Mayor Gerardo Rojas, Vice Mayor Johnny Reosura, Murcia SB Members, and other officials are set to attend the opening ceremonies, along with PSO head Anthony Carlo Agustin.

There will be three major categories in the softball tournament – majors (12-under or ages 11-12), juniors (14-under or ages 13-14) and seniors.

The tournament is part of the Abanse Negrense grassroots sports development programs initiated by Gov. Lacson, with the assistance of Agustin. Through these projects, they are hoping to develop the skills of potential players in preparation for much bigger leagues such as the Little League World Series.

Meanwhile, the Governor’s Cup Inter-District 3X3 Basketball Tournament will continue its District V and VI eliminations. The sixth and fifth districts playoffs are set in the municipalities of Hinoba-an at 8 am and Hinigaran at 1 pm on Saturday, respectively.

The participating LGU teams in the fifth district are La Castellana, Hinigaran, Himamaylan City, and Binalbagan. The sixth district will include the municipalities of Hinoba-an and Candoni, and the cities of Sipalay and Kabankalan.

The press release from the PSO added that the Governor’s Cup Football Provincial Championship Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals will be held at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium on Oct. 30-31 at 8 a.m. Participating teams are San Carlos City, Dolphins FC, Pontevedra, Sagay City, Trinity Christian School FC, Victorias City, Cadiz City, and Bago City for the Born 2010 (12-under) category.

For the Born 2005 (17-under) category, the teams are San Carlos City, Pontevedra, Bago City, Sagay City, Cadiz City, STI-WNU, USLS-IS, and the CHFC.*
