The Partido Asenso Hinoban-on has issued a statement strongly condemning in highest possible terms in what it described as “dastardly act” of killing its community organizer, Ulysses “Isik” Mahinay on January 6 in Brgy. Culipapa, Hinobaan, Negros Occidental.
Hinobaan Mayor Ernesto Estrao, in a statement he issued, linked the murder of Mahinay to politics, whom he described as an active aggressive organizer of Partido Asenso Hinoban-on.
Mahinay, according to the Hinobaan police, was shot and killed in front of his residence by an unidentified gunman who fled towards the national highway on board a motorcycle.
The victim succumbed to a gunshot wound in the head, initial police investigations of the Hinobaan police show.
An empty shell of .45 caliber pistol was recovered by the Hinobaan police at the scene of incident.
Prior to his death, Estrao, a vice-mayoralty candidate in Hinobaan, disclosed that Mahinay received several death threats.
While we mourn his death, Estrao said that they will extend full cooperation to the police probers, and to pursue all possible legal remedies to bring his killers to the bars of justice.
“We want a clean and honest election. We want justice and punish those who are behind this dastardly cold-blooded murder of Mahinay,” he added.*
