NBTC regional championships returns to NegOcc

The NBTC Visayas Regional Championship returns to Negros Occidental for the second straight year, bringing together the region’s top grassroots basketball teams for intense competitions from February 27 to March 2.

The games on February 27-28 will be played at the newly-renovated Bacolod City Arts, Sports, and Cultural Center at Bacolod City National High School (BCNHS) and Montalbo Gym. Meanwhile, the final stretch on March 1-2, sees the action moving to the Willy and Nolita Au Gymnasium and Covered Courts of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

The tournament will showcase some of the best young basketball talents from across the Visayas and Palawan, with the ultimate goal of securing a spot to advance to the NBTC National Finals this April at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The Visayas Regional Champion will have the honor of representing the region on the national stage, where they will compete against the best grassroots teams from all over the country.

The participating teams include: Davies/El Tzino (Central Negros), Notre Dame Talisay (North Negros), Bleacher Roadstar Transit (South Negros), San Miguel Team (Palawan), PRU Builders X Calbayog Starhoopsters (Calbayog City), COACH K Basketball (Ormoc City), USPF Baby Panthers (Cebu 1), USJ-R Jaguar Cubs (Cebu 2), RA-Team Khalifa (Cebu 3), Guimaras State University (GSU) Sea Dragons (Guimaras), Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion (Capiz), Asian College Lightnings (Dumaguete City), University of San Agustin Uniwheels (Iloilo), Red Ron Ball Club (Antique), Oasis Ballers (Eastern Samar), PMI Kumong Bol-Anon (Bohol), Aklan Polytechnic College (APC) Blue Dolphins (Aklan), and RACORR Basketball (Tacloban).

This year’s tournament is a collaboration between the Abanse Negrense Sports Programs, spearheaded by Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson, and the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC), headed by Coach Eric Altamirano.

The NBTC program serves as the premier grassroots basketball development initiative in the country, providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and potentially advance to higher levels of competition, including college and professional basketball. With its mission of “Developing Skills, Building Character, and Raising Leaders,” the program not only hones athletic talent but also instills discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the youth.

For Governor Lacson, hosting the NBTC Visayas Regional Championship for the second year is a testament to his commitment to promote sports among Negrense youth. Through such initiatives, he aims to emphasize the importance of active participation in sports as a way to build character, discipline, and camaraderie while opening opportunities for young athletes to reach their full potential.

With a ticket to the NBTC National Finals at stake, expect intense competition, electrifying matchups, and inspiring performances as these young athletes battle for Visayas supremacy. The NBTC Visayas Regional Championship 2025 promises to be another thrilling showcase of top-tier grassroots basketball in the country.*
