The province of Negros Occidental recorded 20,795 recoveries, out of the total 22,096 Covid-19 cases, as of Tuesday, the Provincial Incident Management Team data showed yesterday.

Recoveries climbed to 94.11 percent after the province’s active cases continued to drop in the past weeks, totaling only 719 on Tuesday.

A month ago on July 17, active cases were still at 1,641.

On Monday, total number of active cases was 776, August 15 – 928, August 14 and August 13, both 895, August 12 – 940, and August 11 – 987.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson described the Covid situation in Negros Occidental as “manageable”.

“We’re under Level 2. It’s really for now, manageable. As far as hospital capacity is concerned, we still have 52 percent available beds for Covid patients. We’re hoping to keep it at this level,” he said.

Negros Occidental is under Alert Level 2, referring to certain areas that are at minimal to low risk but have a positive two-week case growth rate, or areas that are at minimal to low risk, have a negative TWGR, but have a healthcare utilization rate higher than 50 percent.

This week, however, Negros Occidental was placed in the spotlight after the country’s first case of Covid-19 Lambda variant has been detected in a 35-year-old pregnant woman from Valladolid town in the southern part of the province.

“Upon recommendation of the Department of Health, they were swabbed again. Both mother and son were still negative. The fact that they are both negative tells us that they are already safe,” Lacson said.*PNA
