Negros Occidental had nine new COVID-19 positive cases yesterday, bringing its total to 254, or the highest number in Western Visayas.

Of the 254 cases, 228 are repatriates and 26 local residents, Department of Health 6 Case Bulletin 113 showed.

Bacolod City had no new COVID-19 cases yesterday. Its total number of COVID-19 positive cases, as of Thursday, were 72, of which 54 are repatriates.

Western Visayas now has 716 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 17 new cases and 63 new recoveries yesterday.

Of the 17 new cases, nine are from Negros Occidental – one overseas Filipino worker each from Murcia, Hinigaran and Silay City, and among the locally stranded individuals, Sagay City has four with one each from Hinoba-an and Cauayan.

The good news is that of the 63 COVID-19 recoveries in Western Visayas yesterday, seven are from Bacolod City and 33 from Negros Occidental with Himamaylan having five, Binalbagan – four, three each from Calatrava, Escalante, and Hinoba-an, two each in Cadiz City, Sagay City, Pontevedra, and La Castellana, and one each from Hinigaran, Moises Padilla, Manapla, Toboso, Bago City, and Pulupandan, the DOH reported said.

Of the 716 COVID-19 cases in Western Visayas, Negros Occidental has 254, Iloilo province – 225, Iloilo City – 90, Bacolod City – 72, Guimaras – 24, Capiz – 20, Antique – 20, and Aklan – 11, the DOH reported.

The DOH also reported that 359 of the region’s Covid patients are active, 345 have recovered and 12 have died.*

Local government units (LGUs) in Region 6 are urged to expand their temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMF) due to the “up and down” number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases reported in various provinces, the DOH said.

The DOH-Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD6), in its situational report, showed that as of Wednesday, 2,167 of the total 6,522 beds from 303 facilities dedicated to Covid-19 are occupied.

The minimum standard of TTMF is one isolation bed for every 2,500 population, or equivalent to 3,187 beds. They are reserved for recovering, transferred from hospitals, “probable” and Covid-19 suspect cases, Dr. Marie Jocelyn Te, DOH-CHD 6 spokesperson, said.

She said that among the highly urbanized cities and provinces in the region, only Negros Occidental and Guimaras are within the warning zone, meaning 30 to 70 percent of their TTMFs are occupied.

Negros Occidental has 1,908 available beds and 1,809 occupied, while Guimaras has 62 occupied beds and 117 available beds.

Meanwhile, except for the city and province of Iloilo, the remaining highly urbanized city of Bacolod, and other provinces of Western Visayas are within the warning zone for the number of dedicated beds for returning overseas Filipino workers and locally stranded individuals.*PNA
