COVID-19 active cases in Negros Occidental increased to 110, as 11 more cases were reported on August 1 by the Provincial Incident Management Team (PIMT).

This brings to 41,774 total cases logged by PIMT from March 27, 2020 up to Aug. 1 this year, with 39,685 recoveries and 1,978 deaths.

Three COVID-19 related deaths were also reported from July 27 to 29 in Negros Occidental, where 19 of 31 local government units remain under the Alert Level 2 classification until Aug. 15.

COVID-19 cases were also reported by the Department of Health-Western Visayas to be increasing in Iloilo City, provinces of Iloilo, Aklan, Guimaras and Antique.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. yesterday renewed his call to Filipinos to get their booster shots against COVID-19, asking them not to wait for a spike in cases and hospitalizations.

“We have no other defense against this other than the vaccine. Let’s not wait for the cases to increase and for it to become difficult for us to go to work, to leave our homes,” he said in a speech during a vaccination visit in Pasig City.

Marcos urged the public to convince their families and loved ones to get boosted against COVID-19.

He reiterated his promise that there will be no need to impose lockdowns despite the increase in COVID-19 infections.

Marcos reminded the public to continue observing minimum public health standards such as wearing of face masks, washing of hands and physical distancing.*with report from PNA
