BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The provincial government of Negros Occidental received an additional 110,000 doses of Sinovac, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca vaccines, and Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said this was the biggest supply received by the province from the national government.

Lacson reported that the province has vaccinated about 11 percent of the 70 percent targeted population, that he said is still far behind in achieving herd immunity.

There are even talks that the targeted 70 percent herd immunity may be increased to 80 to 85 percent, he added.

The Inter-Agency Task Force assured Region 6 of being in the priority list of recipients of vaccines, due to the surge of Covid-19 active cases in the area.

Lacson said the arrival of 110,000 doses of vaccines may have been part of it. “I hope that they will be consistent,” he added.

Of the newly-arrived vaccines, 80,000 doses were Sinovac, 585 vials or 3,510 doses of Pfizer, and 420 vials of AstraZeneca, equivalent to 4,200 doses, and part of the supply purchased by the provincial government of Negros Occidental.

Lacson said the arrival of vaccines procured by the provincial government still fell short of the 10,000 vials of AstraZeneca that Capitol was expecting.*
