Negros Occidental logged 6,510 voters on the last day of registration, September 30, records of the Commission on Elections showed yesterday.
On the other hand, there were about 700 registrants in Bacolod City.
Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria disclosed on Tuesday that the Election Registration Board will convene on October 14, to hear and review the applications for registration.
“Hopefully, after hearings the original voters population of the province (Negros Occidental) will return to two million voters,” Ananoria said.
Comelec records also indicated that Negros Oriental recorded 3,047 voters, and 440 in Siquijor, on the last day of registration.
Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor are now under the Negros Island Region.
Of the 9,997 new voters in NIR, Comelec records showed that 5,230 are male, and 4,767 are female.
Negros Occidental also topped the most number of male voters in the NIR with 3,378 voters compared to 3,132 female voters.*
