A 22-year-old Agricultural Business graduate was elected “unopposed” as the new president of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in Negros Occidental.

Mayvelyn Madrid, the SK chairperson of Brgy. 5 in San Carlos City, will replace Pocholo Yuvienco, who also resides in the same city and served as provincial SK Federation president for five years.

Starting next week, Madrid will serve as an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental.

Madrid and other newly elected SK Federation officers, including Trisha Mae Majan of Victorias City as vice president, Remar Lascano of Pontevedra as secretary, Cheska Gwenyth Lopez of EB Magalona as treasurer, John Mhil Acerada of Silay City as auditor, Kierly Villanueva of La Castellana as public relations officer, and Gemnell Versoza of Binalbagan as sergeant-at-arms, took their oaths of office yesterday, administered by Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.

Asked her on priorities for the SK in Negros Occidental, Madrid said she wants unity among all youth and SK all over the province, and provide free printing services for students to minimize their school expenses.

Both Love Negros and United Negros Alliance have earlier agreed among themselves that the SK and Liga ng mga Barangay presidents should came from the cities of San Carlos and Victorias.

The provincial Liga ng mga Barangay election is slated for December 15.

Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer, the president of UNegA, yesterday said that their political group will have an assembly and Christmas party on Dec. 9.*
