Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson took advantage of his ongoing visit to Australia’s Northern Territory by further strengthening strategic global linkages and opening opportunities for Negrenses in those areas.
Lacson, who led the provincial government delegation in attending the graduation rites of Negrense scholars under the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program, engaged in a diplomatic meeting with the Robyn Cahill, Minister for Trade, Business and Asian Relations; International Education, Migration and Population; Workforce Development; Advanced Manufacturing; Children and Families; Child Protection; and Prevention of Domestic Violence.
In their meeting, Lacson and Cahill discussed the strengthening of regional ties between Negros Occidental and the Northern Territory, especially in areas of international education, skills development, trade, and cultural exchange, as well as the possibility of the resumption of direct flights from Manila to Darwin.
The visit highlights the successful collaboration between Negros Occidental and the Northern Territory in education programs that are already transforming lives of the Negrense youth, according to a statement issued by the provincial government.
It added that the presence of Governor Lacson at the graduation of Negrense scholars is a testament to the provincial government’s strong support for its students abroad and its vision of producing globally competitive and socially responsible Negrense professionals.
