The Negros Occidental Provincial Sports Office sent two chess teams in response to the invitation to the Sen. Manny Pacquiao Gen San Tuna Festival Chess Tournament held in General Santos City from September 1 to 5.
Anthony Carlo Agustin, head of the Provincial Sports Office, led the delegation of chess players and coaches to compete against 56 teams coming from various local government units (LGUs) and the private sector, a press release from the Provincial Sports Office said.
Composing the Negros Team A were International Master Joel Pimentel, Romeo Sadia and Reginald dela Peña. Negros Team B players were National Master Edsel Montoya, Eric Abanco and Theseus Benitez.
The Negros Occ. team ended up victorious, winning the Top LGU Team award, bringing home a trophy that will inspire Neg. Occ. Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson in his continued efforts on sports development in the province.*
