President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the development projects at the Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport, hopeful that these improvements would help boost trade and tourism in Negros Oriental and nearby provinces.

“I hope this project would inspire us further to provide better services and opportunities for our people and harness the potential of trade and tourism as the catalyst for economic recovery, particularly in the provinces,” Duterte said in his speech during the airport projects’ inauguration in Barangay Boloc-Boloc, Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

He lauded the Department of Transportation, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, and other partners who contributed to the completion of the project despite pandemic-related lockdowns.

The President also assured the public that the national government remains committed to finishing all infrastructure projects during his administration with the least inconvenience to the public and with adherence to honesty and integrity.

The P252 million rehabilitation projects at the Dumaguete-Sibulan Airport include the re-blocking of the apron, construction of two taxiways, expansion of the existing Passenger Terminal Building , runway asphalt overlay and shoulder grade correction, and expansion of the CAAP Administrative Building.

These development projects have increased the airport’s capability to accommodate heavier aircraft and expanded the terminal passenger’s capacity from 330 to 450. The airport will serve the provinces of Negros Oriental and neighboring Siquijor Island and is expected to boost air mobility in the region.*PNA
