In a decisive display of sustained law enforcement efforts, the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) successfully arrested two high-ranking fugitives in the Negros Island Region on Monday.
The first operation was conducted in Sitio Loho, Barangay Nalundan, Bindoy, Negros Oriental, resulting in the apprehension of a former member of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG), who is tagged as the region’s No. 4 most wanted person, for the case of murder.
The suspect, alias Jas, 29, was arrested in connection with a non-bailable charge of murder committed during his time with the rebels.
Meanwhile, in a separate operation by the Valencia Municipal Police Station, the region’s 6th most wanted fugitive was apprehended for violation of four counts of RA 9262, otherwise known as the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004.
The suspect, ‘Drei,’ 52, a Russian businessman temporarily residing at Purok 2, Barangay Jawa, was taken into custody following the coordination of Lal-lo Police Station to Valencia MPS for the suspect’s violence committed in Barangay Centro, Lal-lo, Cagayan Valley.
Police said that the accused allegedly subjected his wife to repeated physical abuse. Although initially hesitant to file a complaint, the victim eventually sought legal action after the abuse escalated to a point that seriously threatened her life.
Both suspects are currently in police custody for proper legal disposition.*
