The province of Negros Oriental has recorded 20 new recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) even as another death due to the virus was reported.
Assistant Provincial Health officer, Dr. Liland Estacion, health committee chair of the province’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) in a virtual press yesterday afternoon, said they received 270 swab test results Thursday from different laboratory testing centers.
Of the total, 232 turned out negative, including the new recoveries. However, she said 28 new cases and 10 repeat swab tests turned out to be positive infections.
The new positive cases are from Dumaguete with 11, Bayawan City – 6, Sibulan and Valencia – 4 each, Siaton – 2, and Sta. Catalina – 1.
The new recoveries are from Sibulan – 6, Bayawan City and Tanjay City – 4 each, Sta. Catalina – 3, and Basay, Dumaguete City, and Zamboanguita – 1 each.
As of yesterday, the total caseload of Negros Oriental is 1,522, with 1,224 recoveries, 253 active cases, and 45 mortalities.
An 81-year-old-female from Dumaguete, who was hypertensive and was swabbed post-mortem, was the latest recorded death, Estacion said.
488K RECOVERIES
Nationwide, at least 397 individuals have recovered from Covid-19 yesterday, bringing the country’s total recoveries to 488,274, or 91.5 percent of all Covid-19 infections.
In its daily Covid-19 bulletin, the Department of Health also reported 1,894 new cases of Covid-19, with active cases now at 34,255, or 6.4 percent of all cases.
Out of the active cases, 89 percent have mild symptoms, followed by those with no symptoms at six percent, those in critical condition at 2.3 percent, those with severe symptoms at 2.2 percent, and those with moderate symptoms at 0.51 percent.
A total of 27,942 individuals were tested for Covid-19, based on reports collected on Thursday, with 1,415 individuals testing positive, or 5.1 percent.
Sixty-one individuals have also succumbed to the disease, bringing the total recorded deaths caused by Covid-19 to 11,058, or 2.07 percent.
So far, most of the country’s health facilities remain available, with a 60-percent availability for the country’s 1,900 beds at intensive care units, 65 percent availability for the 13,500 isolation beds, 77 percent availability for 6,000 ward beds, and 79 percent availability for 2,000 ventilators, the DOH reported.
MASTER LIST
The DOH also said it is in the process of finalizing the master list of persons under the A1 priority group, or workers in frontline health services as vaccination rollout looms.
“We are now in the process of master listing group A1, so as early as January this year, we have reached out to facilities and local governments who will encompass this group A1,” DOH-Covid-19 Surveillance and Quick Action Unit deputy chief, Dr. Razel Nikka Hao, said in a virtual briefing yesterday.
Masterlisting, a local government unit-led initiative, is the first step of all pre-planning activities needed to be done for the nationwide vaccination program.
Some 116,000 healthcare frontliners have so far been included in the A1 group master list in the National Capital Region, Hao said. Once done, Hao said the names and data collected would be endorsed to the LGUs, that would plan how to go about with the front-liners’ inoculation process.*PNA
