
The Abanse Negrense Football Team Under 11 category earned another accolade by winning the CIS Friendship Cup 2024.
The tournament, organized in partnership with Makati Football Club Cebu, SkyGo, and BPI, took place at Cebu International School on Saturday, May 18.
Abanse Negrense FT U11 displayed strong teamwork and skill throughout the tournament, maintaining an unbeaten record in the elimination rounds.
They achieved a 7-0 victory against Don Bosco Liloan, a 5-0 win over Sports Gen Int. FA, a narrow 1-0 win against MFC White Cebu, and a decisive 5-0 triumph over Manta FC, without conceding any goals.
In the quarterfinals, Abanse Negrense won 3-0 against Guardian Strikers and narrowly defeated Aicon FC 1-0 in the semi-finals. The championship match was a close contest against fellow Negrense team, Sta. Ana de San Carlos. In a dramatic finish, Abanse Negrense scored the winning goal in the last 50 seconds, securing a 1-0 victory for the championship title.
Several players received individual honors chosen by the tournament officials for their outstanding contributions. Rheon Allego was named Best Midfielder, Ethan Joaquin Constantino received the Golden Gloves award, William Cusi was awarded MVP, Cyrus Mahinay won the Golden Boot, and Chrysander Cloud Sia was chosen as Best Defender.
Other key players included James Ayalin, Dray Timothy Docil, Kion Kefir Gargar, Derrick Renzo Ron Guyala, and Hansley Melchor, each contributing significantly to the team’s success. Coaches Mark Fernando Hilay Jr. and John Robert Mendoza expertly guided the team, with the latter receiving the Best Coach award.
According to the press release, the victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Abanse Negrense FT U11, adding another achievement to their journey.
