San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza resumed his ministry work for the Roman Catholic Church after recovering from Covid-19.
“Twenty-one days after I tested Covid-19 positive, I am now negative,” Alminaza, who presided over a mass at the San Carlos Borromeo Cathedral Parish in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental yesterday, said.
“God showed me who is in control and how free and peaceful I can be if I learn ‘To let go and let God!’, that includes letting go of entitlements,” Alminaza said.
The bishop had tested positive for Covid on June 20 and was symptomatic.
He was discharged from the San Carlos Doctors’ Hospital on June 25 after a six-day confinement, and also completed the 21-day quarantine period.
“I have greater admiration, respect, and gratitude for everyone in the healthcare service now, particularly the frontliners,” Alminaza said.
“Though isolated but never alone, I feel more present and connected to a lot more people, I see more depth and wider vision, notice more dimensions of life, acknowledged more painful, embarrassing yet liberating truths about myself and our communities, discovered more strength in powerlessness, made more important decisions and accomplished more – but not without God’s grace and the unity and collaboration of our core team,” he added.
Alminaza was advised to be conscientiously guarded in accepting engagements due to his pre-existing medical condition.
He enjoined the faithful to continuously observe the established health and safety protocols of the Department of Health and the Inter-Agency Task Force.*
