The province of Negros Occidental, highly urbanized Bacolod City, 11 component cities and six municipalities in the province, are recipients of the 2024 Seal of Good Local Governance, according to the Department of Interior and Local Government.
In a statement, the DILG Western Visayas lauded the awardees from Negros Occidental for their hard work and dedication inspire positive change.
We laud your effort in embodying good governance and raising the bar of excellence in public service, it said.
The 2024 SGLG passers, aside from Negros Occidental and Bacolod City, are the cities of Victorias, Bago, Cadiz, Escalante, Himamaylan, La Carlota, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay, Talisay, and Sipalay, as well as municipalities of E.B. Magalona, Hinigaran, Ilog, Isabela, La Castellana and Manapla.
The SGLG is conferred by the DILG to local government units that adhere to performance criteria on good financial housekeeping, disaster preparedness, social protection for the basic sector, business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, and law and order and public safety.
A statement issued by the Victorias City government said that the recognition for 2024 builds upon the success of 2023, which proves their sustained efforts toward transparent, inclusive and sustainable governance.
Mayor Marvin Malacon, who is now on his third and last term as mayor of E.B. Magalona said “this SGLG national award is a testament to our remarkable performance for the past eight years, and our strong commitment to improving governance given the day to day challenges and needs of our municipality.”*
