The Negros Occidental Seniors girls’ softball team fared well in the 2022 Senior League Softball World Series held in Delaware, U.S.A., earning a 3-2 win over Latin America in their first game, followed by a back-to-back game which led to their second win over the East Coast girls ending in a 10-0 victory.
Negrense pitcher Joy Alpitche of Hinobaan gave the opponents a hard time with her power-packed pitches that shook opponents’ heads and amazed the audience composed of foreigners as well as Filipinos cheering for the team.
It was an unexpected victory on the second game played at eight in the evening as the team just took a thirty-minute break.
The Negros Occidental girls team represents the Philippines and the Asia Pacific as the regional winner.
The team is ably supported and inspired by Governor Eugenio ‘Bong’ Lacson, himself a sportsman. The provincial government supported the preparation of the softball team and sent them to Delaware.
The team is headed by Anthony Carlo Agustin, head of Sports of the provincial government.*
