Negros Power employee arrested for theft

• THERESA MAE DULMAN

A regular employee of the Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) was arrested for qualified theft after security guards caught him hiding company-owned copper wires inside his car on Sunday night, May 31.

Talisay City police identified the suspect by the alias ‘Ray,’ a 38-year-old resident of Barangay Lopez Jaena, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. at the Negros Power facility located in Menlo Phase 3, Barangay Zone 10, Talisay City.

According to the initial investigation, the suspect was about to drive his vehicle out of the company premises when he was stopped for a routine vehicle inspection.

Following company standard operating procedures, the duty security guard searched the car and discovered two rolls of black copper wire hidden on the floor of the passenger side.

Each roll of wire measured approximately 150 meters.

The security guard immediately reported the discovery to his supervisor, who then called the Talisay Component City Police Station for assistance.

Authorities established that the employee took the electrical wires without any proper authorization or consent.

The suspect was taken into the custody of the Talisay police for proper legal disposition.*
