A neophyte police officer died while three others were hurt during a vehicular crash on Jan. 30 along the national highway of Brgy. 5 in Isabela, Negros Occidental.

Patrolman Michael Cuanico, a member of the Moises Padilla Police Station, was declared dead on arrival at the Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Isabela, police investigations show.

Cuanico, who was driving a motorcycle, figured in a head-on collision with a motorcycle with a sidecar driven by a 17-year-old student, whose identity is being withheld for being a minor. The passengers of the sidecar were identified as a certain Emily Tubrea, 35, and a 9-year-old child, police investigations further showed.

The minor, who is now under the custody of the Isabela Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office, and the two passengers of the tricycle were reported to have been in stable condition.*
