• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

Due to an old grudge between the two parties, a nephew shot dead his own uncle at around 7:40 p.m. on Wednesday, inside their house at Sitio Wawa, Barangay Pandanon Silos, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

The victim was identified as the 69-year-old senior citizen with the alias ‘Norman,’ while the suspect was his nephew who lives beside their house, named as alias ‘Joel,’ 58, and married.

Initial investigation revealed that the suspect, who was observed to be under the influence of liquor, went inside the house of the victim, and without any reason, shot the victim once, hitting the right abdomen.

According to Murcia Municipal Police Station Chief Commander PCapt. Honey Labaro, the suspect has a long-time grudge against his uncle, the details of which were not disclosed by family members.

Immediately after the incident, the residents of the area helped transport the victim onboard the barangay ambulance, to a hospital in Bacolod City for treatment. The victim survived and is now recovering.

Meanwhile, the suspect who fled the scene was successfully apprehended by the police during a hot pursuit operation on the same day. The police recovered from his possession a caliber .45 firearm with a magazine, which was allegedly used as the weapon in the crime.

The suspect is now under police custody and will face criminal charges, while the recovered weapon was brought to the forensic unit for laboratory examination.*
