The power interruptions experienced yesterday in Negros Island was due to supply deficiency brought about by the tripping of power plants following the isolation of the Negros-Panay submarine cable, according to the National Grid Power Corporation.

The activation of NGCP’s protection system to regulate loading of the Amlan-Samboan submarine cable, in order to stability of the grid, also contributed to the power situation.

NGCP said it was able to partially restore transmission services in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental 4:25 pm yesterday, in areas of CENECO, NOCECO, NORECO I and NORECO II.

The Northern Negros Electric Cooperative also issued an advisory that it may also implement the Manual Load Dropping (MLD), as advised by NGCP due to generation deficiency in areas of E.B. Magalona, Victorias City, Manapla, cities of Cadiz, Sagay, Escalante and San Carlos, as well as Toboso and Calatrava.

It said that MLD average is projected at 30MW from 6:00 PM until 12:00 MN or earlier. But schedule may be cancelled if system condition improves.

NGCP apologized for the inconvenience caused by MLD.*
