NIR cops remember SAF 44 on National Day of Remembrance

• GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The Police Regional Office Negros Island Region has solemnly commemorated the National Day of Remembrance for the Heroic Sacrifice of the Special Action Force 44, on January 25, at Camp Alfredo Montelibano Sr. in Bacolod City, paying tribute to their bravery, patriotism, who laid down their lives in the service of peace, security, and the Filipino people.

In a statement, the PRO-NIR said the commemorative activity was led by PBrig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, PRO-NIR regional director and the 6th Special Action Battalion of the PNP Special Action Force, with the program marked by a solemn moment of silence and the offering of wreaths in honor of the SAF 44, whose courage in the line of duty remains a powerful symbol of selfless service and unwavering commitment to the nation.

Through this year’s theme, “Courage Beyond Measure: Remembering the Sacrifice of the SAF 44 for Peace,” PRO NIR underscored the enduring legacy of the fallen heroes whose sacrifice continues to inspire members of the Philippine National Police to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, honor, and dedication to duty.

In his message, Ibay recalled that 44 SAF members answered the highest call of duty in Mamasapano, choosing courage over comfort, mission over self, and service over personal safety, eleven years ago.

Their sacrifice was a conscious act of valor, borne of discipline, faith, and unwavering commitment to the Filipino people, and their heroism reshaped institutions, strengthened national resolve, according to Ibay.

He added that their story serves as a mirror for the police profession, showing that the uniform is not merely a symbol of authority but a covenant of service, a promise to stand when the nation calls and to remain steadfast in the face of danger.*
