BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

Board Member Ryan Gamboa yesterday said he has not made any decision yet on whether he will seek again the presidency of the Philippine Councilors League – Negros Occidental chapter.

A reelected councilor of Silay City, Gamboa said he will wait for the advice of his party leaders at Love Negros, especially that of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson.

Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr., the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) secretary general, earlier disclosed that he was informed by party chairman Second District Rep. Alfredo Marañon III, that La Carlota City Councilor Julius Martin Asistio signified his intention to run for the PCL-Negros Occidental presidency.

Asistio is the son of Fourth District Rep. Juliet Marie Ferrer.

Gamboa recalled that he had no plans to run as PCL president in 2019. He said he was however urged by his party mates at Love Negros to run, which he complied with.

Escalante said that UNegA will meet this month to discuss the PCL elections, among other topics.

Negros Occidental Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer yesterday said that the meeting is expected following the May 9 elections, as he raised the possibility that new members will have to take their oaths.

Ferrer however refused to comment on a possible showdown between Gamboa and Asistio in the PCL-Negros presidency.

The PCL-Negros Occidental elections are slated for September this year.

Ferrer stressed that the coalition between UnegA and Love Negros remains intact.*
