BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

There will be no face-to-face graduation ceremony in Negros Occidental, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Department of Education- Negros Occidental spokesperson Ian Arnold Arnaez announced yesterday.

But Arnaez said that the graduation ceremony may be done “virtually”.

He also announced that the closing of School Year 2020-2021 will be on July 12.

Arnaez further said that DepEd is discouraging students from going to their schools for graduation pictorials.

As to the opening of classes this year, he said there are proposals that it should be either on the first or second week of September, for the teachers to have enough time to prepare for it.

Pending approval of the new general school opening and school calendar, DepEd issued a statement that private schools and non-DepEd public schools may start their classes for 2021-2022, provided that there are no face-to-face classes, and they will strictly implement distance learning modules.*
