No local transfer of voters during Comelec registration

• RICHARD T. CABALLERO JR.

Atty. Lionel Marco Castillano, Negros Island Region Election Director, said that the Commission on Elections will not be catering to local transfer of voters during the voters’ registration period from August 1 to 10.

Voters are not allowed to change their voting records from one barangay to another, or from one city to another, due to the limited time of the registration. However, voters who cast their vote overseas last election are allowed to transfer their records locally.

Meanwhile, the Comelec-NIR is ready for the start of registration and is open to cater to new voter registrations, reactivations of records, and corrections of voters’ information in all satellite offices and available areas.

Local election officers have coordinated with the barangays and schools for easy registration operations during the period. The Comelec is open on Saturday and Sunday during the given period to actively cater applicants.

Upon registration, the commission will no longer accept barangay certification or company ID as proof of residence; only government-issued ID will be accepted. If not available, new voters can bring one registered voter to identify them as a resident, according to Castillano.*
